The Lowdown
Join us next May for our most ambitious challenge yet as we attempt to cycle 120 miles in one day from the coastal town of Beer in Devon to Soberton in Hampshire. A symbol of the peaks, troughs, difficulty, and ultimately the reward of the road to sobriety, this event is ultimately a massive celebration of the sober journey, and we would love to share it with you!
The event is open to both sober and sober curious folks. We understand that completing the full 120-mile challenge might feel out of reach for some. Therefore, you are welcome to do a shorter version of the route by choosing a different starting point. Check out the map below for alternative routes.
The Beer to Soberton challenge is also a brilliant opportunity to raise funds for a cause that is close to your heart.
The Route
Beginning in the aptly named town of Beer, the route rolls its way along the scenic Devonshire coast, taking in Wareham, Poole and Bournemouth before turning inland through the New Forest National Park, passing Lyndhurst and Southampton. 120 miles in one day is no easy feat, which means some training in the saddle is required. We welcome both experienced bike people and bike newbies, but, keep in mind that this is a self-guided event, and you will be responsible for your well-being on the day.
It is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike) event, and you will also be expected to arrange your own accommodation. After signing up we will share the route along with links to accommodation in Beer and Soberton. You will also have the opportunity to join the WhatsApp group where everyone can share their training progress, ask questions and send ridiculous GIFS.

After living and working in Shanghai for several years, Stu decided to cycle from China to the UK along the old Silk Road. Things didn’t go to plan when he ended up homeless and destitute in a radioactive outpost of Kazakhstan before getting turfed into prison, where he experienced the mother of all rock bottoms. Now sober, Stu is passionate about sobriety and spreading the message that sober does not have to be boring.
